Skepticism for life insurance

| Financial Freedom, Insurance, Money Matters | April 29, 2015

We often heard people saying negative things about life insurance. I myself as a Filipino grew up with the mindset that insurance is not important and always skeptic about the benefits it could give to an individual. Most Filipinos perhaps have the same mentality that’s why many do not invest time and money in life insurance rather would prefer saving their hard earned money in banks to earn interest which by the way only 0.5% at most. For many, saving in the banks is one of the most secure and effective way hoping that when the time comes their saved money would have grown to give security and protection for themselves and to the people whom they treasure.

Skepticism or having a skeptical attitude is good in some way or scenario since it gives you the ability to doubt and start to question which leads to answer. But being skeptic forever without seeking for probable answer especially about life insurance will cost more that will hurt financial needs in the long run. The lack of answer to educate and gain financial literacy limits the individual from knowing on what is the right approach which probably the reason why many Filipino neglect the idea of being insured or having the insurance they need to secure their future. Some common doubts about life insurance that keeps Filipinos away from getting insurance protection are:

It is just a waste of money

Many believe that insurance is just a monthly expense that doesn’t give anything. Insurance only becomes a waste of money ONLY IF no proper orientation about the different types of plans is selected. Choosing the right insurance based on the individual’s needs is the key to avoid inappropriate payment of premiums that is not required. Determining the need before engaging is important since you can identify which is suited to the person being insured. You don’t need a plan that will cover you with millions of protection if you only have limited budget to pay for the premium. The end result could be terminating the plan prematurely due to lack of budget to supplement the premium thus incurring insurance at loss. It is like taking too many foods that is hard to swallow thus ending up into waste.

Nowadays, insurance companies uses a different approach that is need-based driven to offer life protection plus the addition of investment known as Variable Life Insurance. Its flexibility is so attractive which can be adjusted according to the individuals future needs and capacity thus making it more convenient to almost everyone.

Insurance companies is not secure and safe

There are a number of insurance companies in the Philippines and based on the 2013 Life Insurance Companies ranking, there are a total of 30 listed but of course others are not accounted on the list. It’s true that in some instance insurance companies closed due to mismanagement and lack of financial capability to sustain the drastic changes in economy. I myself was a victim of such situations where the insurance company – Permanent Plans closed after it filed for a corporate rehabilitation or should we say bankruptcy.

Nevertheless, not all insurance companies are the same. Some of them already had gone through tough times and proved that they can stand the test of time on whatever the situation may be. Some companies for example already survived World War 2, People Power Revolution in 1986, endured several economic crisis globally and locally. Yet, they still exist to serve the needs of every Filipino.

To clear doubts and have the feeling of confidence with insurance companies, one must do some research. The quickest way to determine if the company is stable, reliable and trustworthy is by simply checking the insurance commission website at www.insurance.gov.ph. As recommended, it is best to look for the top five (5) best performing company and narrow it down by choosing which one is more appropriate based on the needs.

I have sufficient income or my business is doing well

Having regular income from salary or a business that provide a constant inflow stream of money is sometimes also the reason why Filipinos are not investing in insurance. This negate the other reason where the lack of budget is what pushing them out to get one. The reason behind is having the constant stream of money gives them the comfort and confidence that they don’t need any insurance for future needs considering that they have the source which for them is more than enough.

Being comfortable at something especially for work or business is dangerous. Remember that nothing last forever. Your work may be giving you all the perks and benefits including high salaries today but you can never tell tomorrow. Same with businesses. Even how stable the business you have, don’t’ expect that it would last. There is no exception. There will come a time where business couldn’t keep up with the change and worst case could end up collapsing.

The best approach while you have other sources of income or you still have a stable job, is to use your excess money to diversify. Learn the different investment opportunity and make room to understand life insurance which is the foundation for future protection.

There are still many reason which others can share aside from the mentioned list and some might be able to argue about it. Nevertheless, the main idea can simply be answered with right education to gain financial literacy and better yet consult a qualified financial planner or adviser to ask for guidance.

Top 5 deleted, banned or SPAM ads in Klikdito.ph

| Articles, Buy and Sell, Klikdito | April 2, 2015

In our bid to make our website clean, we listed down our top 5 annoying ads which are either not allowed or just simply a SPAM and some contains untrustworthy information. Here are the list;

5. Wanted Nanny and Maids Ads

From time-to-time, we see and delete ads that pertains to foreigners looking for nanny or maids. The ad tries to introduce their family first then start to showcase their dreams and aspirations if you become one of the nanny of their kids. They provide contact details but by doing research in the internet, this type of ads are very rampant from other countries and websites which contains the same information. It is like created by bots and has a malicious intent to “possibly” draw out money from the victims if they fall into their traps.

4. Massage and Escort Services Ads

Though our site allows services which we believe other business is credible enough, there were several attempt where it is being used to promote nudity or sexuality by posting escort services as part of their massage offerings. The ads are normally showing pictures of young women that seems to be tempting users. This type of ads are is in violation of our terms thus the team keeps on removing and it is being judge based on message content and its intention.

3. Iphone Unlock Ads

One of the most malicious ad that is categorized as SCAM which was removed for several times. Nevertheless, this ads are still coming (at random times) and is not easily distinguishable unless you open the ad and check its ad patterns. It is posted from different country, their ad content shows a very attractive listing of prices of different Iphones or gadgets and at the bottom part is the skype and payment options which normally through untraceable payment gateways. As what we keep on reminding our fellow klikers, be vigilant and if the ad is too good to be true then it is sign that it is untrustworthy and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER transact with people outside the country!

2. Fifa Coins Ads

The “FIFA coin” ads is the most difficult to filter. Their ads are simply mutating from different users and comes from different sources which we believe are created by bots. They normally contains malicious links that direct to other websites though the team have never attempted to click for verification for security purposes. The team are still doing its best to filter this type of ads but still has little success due to its mutation capability.

1. Malabanan Siphoning Ads

This ads are the most annoying from them all! It comes from specific people or users who do not understand the concept of SPAM. These users are not considered as bots since they are legitimate one who simply do not follow our terms even being notified several times. Their ads are repetitive and does not comply with terms of use for the website which consume higher resources that degrades performance of the website. Similar to DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) in IT concept, their continuous injection of ads of similar content makes server processes overwhelming to accommodate that slows down and sometimes makes the website inaccessible for a time period.

By banning their accounts, emails, IPs and implementing keywords filtering the team are slowly reducing their volume of ads which we hope will be forever gone to make Klikdito.ph browsing experience more efficient and productive.

Treat internet as your ally

| Internet | April 17, 2014

the-power-of-the-internetThe power of information age is drastically changing the way we live. Thanks to the “World Wide Web” known as the internet. What is internet anyway? According to wikipedia.org, internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to serve several billion users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies. In other words, it is an invisible link that connects each and every one of us in today’s digital age.

Sometimes during the 1990’s when internet is on its infancy stage, the technology is not for everyone’s use. There are only few users back then but that numbers has increased multiple folds which according to internetworldstatistics.com, the estimated internet users as of 2012 is 2.4 billion. That’s a huge number.

The inventor of Ethernet Robert Metcalfe, founder of 3com did not anticipate the public appreciation and its potential growth where he even predicted that it will collapse in 1996. “I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse.” which is the exact words that was published in the 1995 InfoWorld column. And; in 1999 he admitted how silly his prediction about internet during the Sixth International WWW Conference. His predictions made it as one of the worst tech predictions of all time spoken by the inventor itself.

As for me, my first recollection of the internet is way back in 2001. Seeing a 56K modem at school and hearing its dialing sound amazed me a lot. I was so curious and even dreamed of having one for personal use. But of course, setting-up one would be useless if you don’t have any computer in the first place for use.  So I settled down by being contented with what our computer lab being offered – free internet access for educational research. That 56K modem is the fastest during that time. It was the era of AOL, Netscape and yahoo as the leading internet sites. Though, during that period my patience is always tested every time I use the internet and I think almost everyone feels the same same. As I remember, the average wait time for a website to load is about 30 seconds. Today, it’s almost like real-time. No more waiting – goodbye 56K modem. Internet has evolved tremendously with the help of its surrounding new technologies. It enables us surf the web faster, easier and efficiently.

So, how can we utilize the power of the internet? That’s a vague question to ask since the internet has immense possibilities for use. The question is will it be used for good or bad? Well, that depends on who the user is. But let’s delve only on the good things and crap those bad concepts. Ready? Imagine the 2.4 billion users surfing the web and convert it into a one peso coin. You got it right! That’s equivalent to 2.4 billion pesos. If you can target even only the 1% of that 2.4 billion users, that’s roughly 24 million possible reach. If you have a business that you wish to market, treat internet as your ally and a friend. Utilize its capability. Of course you will not capture all markets but getting a fraction of those possible customers will surely catapult your business. Have you ever wondered why Facebook, Google, Twitter and the rest of social networking sites making their billions? That’s because they know how to utilize the internet and use it as their stepping platform for their business.

So what are you waiting for? Post that business of yours in the internet. You can start small and try the brick and mortar business. Consult any tech savvy individuals or use forum and group sites to assist you and for sure, out of those 2.4 billion users there’s always someone willing to help. Use Facebook and other social networking pages. Create a page from many online tools offering free platform for advertising. There are a lot of resources you can tap and the potential is unlimited. All you need to do is to take that first step and start.

Remember, the internet is not showing any signs of slowing down. It will continue to shape our future. Use it wisely for good and you’ll reap the benefits out of it.

Why use online buying and selling websites with cautions?

| Internet | November 18, 2013

The internet is a gateway to so many good to great things. It became the source of information that is accessible 24/7 and is consumed globally. It is used as a portal with multi-level usage varying from corporates, governments, individuals, organizations and the list goes on.

The boom of the e-commerce industry also paves the way of many classified ads websites. E-bay for example started in the 90’s – 1995 to be specific, and since then it grew as a multi-billion dollar company that span to several countries. There are also many other companies that followed in the dot-com age. Here in the Philippines, the major industry leader in classified ads especially in the online buying and selling industry is Sulit.com.ph that started in 2006. It is followed by Ayosdito.ph that was launched in 2009. Of course, there are many others out there operating as substitutes and that includes Klikdito.ph.

With so many online classified ad operators providing easy portals to corporate and individuals in promoting their ads, there’s no doubt that other people with malicious intent will always find ways to utilize this type of portals. Even how stringent the filtering and security features each website applies, they can still create ways to carry-out their bad intentions.  And, in reality these scammers have just become more creative and continuously learning overtime as the internet grew. They are also expanding their knowledgebase through the use of different tactics and strategy to manipulate the web and users. They are getting more sophisticated and sometimes difficult to distinguish from the credible ones. Imagine that, they are lurking online waiting for someone to be victimized.

One question is what are we going to do to protect and secure ourselves as buyers against it? Well, as a personal point-of-view the answer is within us. Awareness and educating ourselves in identifying the signs which are visibly and commonly used by people with bad intentions is the first thing to do. You might be asking, how will you identify if you don’t know what are the signs? Google! By simply doing a search in the internet will yield many results on what are the common scams used. Most likely, you will also find ways to identify and on how to prevent from being scammed online based from other people’s experience written through blogs, forums, videos, news report and many other social networking sites. For sure, each classified ad website also has some information and precautionary note indicated on their site which can serve as a guide to avoid being tricked by others.

Yet, with all the cautionary information around, everyday there still a lot of people fall from scammers trick even the intelligent person. It is not because buyers are stupid but rather they lack understanding and their emotions sometimes shadow their way of thinking. When buyers were presented with flowery words and extremely beautiful things they tend to get excited and forget everything. Especially if the thing they wanted to buy online are the things that they desire most. This is a very dangerous attitude which sometimes only realized once they already made mistakes at the end. Overcoming emotions is indeed not easy but it is one way to avoid being scammed.

Be on the constant lookout and do research before diving in buying something online especially if it cost more than what you can’t afford to lose. If things sound too good to be true… it is a SCAM. It is already proven.

Transact intelligently and not emotionally.

Things you can sell online

| Buy and Sell | June 8, 2013

With so many e-shopping sites popping nowadays, you can clearly see a trend of what’s hot and what’s in based on the ads posted on each websites. Some of them offer specialized items and others simply offer a multitude of products from new to old, small to big, cheap to expensive, common to rare and everything imaginable. Almost all can be sold online. It is just a matter of time before a right buyer finds you. Below is a list of items or products which are mostly posted for selling online and sometimes creates a trend.

Clothing and Bags

Women with classy style and follows a trend of fashion would die to try new clothing especially if it is new to the market. Most of the time, buy and sell websites gives good deals through promos, discounts, coupons and other bargains that catches the eyes of women online shoppers and fashion enthusiast. Same is true with bags. Signature bags even if used as long as not worn-out is still sellable. Undeniably, the internet is also the home of many imitations for clothes and bags that are cheap. People may opt to buy but there’s always a consequence. You know what I mean.

Jewelry and Accessories

Jewelry is also a very good item that can be sold on the internet. Jewelry that is no longer used and is not in bad condition can be sold online at a reasonable price. Those with good value – not sentimental value, such as gold and other precious metals or gemstones can sell in huge amounts. But of course, once you sold it, you can never bring it back not unlike in pawn shop. Homemade accessories are also in for online shoppers especially those that are trendy looking. These items are mostly affordable and easy for transport without the hassle of breaking that makes the product good for online selling.

Toys and Collectibles

Toys and collectibles are also a hot item to sell online. It ranges to many items such as Barbie dolls, lego, key chains, figurines, cartoon character figures, toy cars, super hero magazines, game cards and anything that pertains to popular icons that people loves to collect for their own personal fulfillment. Some of these items becomes more in demand and viral once it goes on wide screen (for movies) like spiderman, superman, etc. Hot toys and collectibles as long as in good condition (used) can even be sold at a very hefty price once it gains more popularity. You may even try to auction it online to give you an idea on how much enthusiast would pay just to get your precious toys and collectible items. One thing for sure is, it will give the seller more bucks once sold online but will cost less than new one’s for buyers.

Electronic gadget is no doubt the hottest of them. It has taken the internet by storm and seems not slowing down. Every new release of phones by different phone manufacturing giants creates a multitude of new posting online. Old models are being sold yet still many buyers are taking advantage of its price drop as compared to new ones. And no matter what model the gadget you’re selling, there’s always a buyer.

Most rich men and the not-so-rich men have in common. They loved cars. Even I, myself wants to have one to many. Cars are not considered an item but for the purpose of trend, I’ll add it to the list. Hot cars are posted on many online selling websites. Brand new and used are most sought on the internet by “to be” first-time car owner for transport purposes and even by car enthusiast for self-achievement. Nevertheless, cars are still one product that’s in for online selling.

Above list is just a few of the many categories of items being posted on the internet for sale and everyday it keeps on growing. As the internet becomes even faster, it will continue to change the lives of many people on the way they do buy and sell.

Just a word of caution to online shoppers, be wary for bogus and fake sellers who tries to take advantage on the internet. Visit our blog page on how to avoid scam.
